In a surprise move, it was announced on 17th December 2009 that Brittany Ferries had purchased the 'Superfast V' from the Attica Group (Superfast/Blue Star Ferries) for €81.5 million to expand Spanish services. The vessel, which formerly operated sailings from Patras and Ancona in the Adriatic sea was delivered to Brittany Ferries under her new name in February 2010. She conducted berthing trials in Cherbourg and Portsmouth before heading for work to be completed in Dunkerque prior to entering service.

History

The naming cermony took place in Cherbourg on 22nd March 2010 before she entered service on the 23.45 service to Portsmouth, arriving for the first time shortly after 09.00 on 23rd March. Each week the ship will complete 2 round trips to Santander and 3 to Cherbourg. With the existing Pont Aven and Normandie Express services passengers from Portsmouth will be able to avail themselves of 3 Santander crossings per week and 14 to Cherbourg in peak season.

The Cap Finistère is the longest vessel in the fleet with a length of 203.90 metres, with capacity for 1600 passengers and 712 cars. However a lower capacity limit will be used in line with the available cabin berths, of 790 passengers.
