Brittany Ferries' Barfleur will return to Poole harbour this weekend, for the first time in over a year. The popular ship is returning to the Poole - Cherbourg link, and is scheduled to dock in the Dorset port on Sunday evening. The first departure from Poole will take place on Monday morning, and the sailing is already fully booked.
Barfleur was purpose-built for the Dorset to Normandy service in 1992 bringing passengers new levels of space and comfort, but left the route at the beginning of 2010. The ship is scheduled to dock in Poole at 21.45 on Sunday evening, with the first departure from Poole at 08.30 on Monday morning.
Steve Warner, Brittany Ferries' General Manager in Poole comments, "We're delighted to be bringing the Barfleur back to the Poole. She's a comfortable, reliable ship, and very popular with passengers - especially those from the local area who feel the ship is almost their own."
"We had no choice but to withdraw her back in January last year because, quite frankly, the numbers weren't stacking up, but we've altered the balance between passengers and freight which will make her more economic to run. We think that this, together with the support of the People of Dorset can make the service a successful one from now and through the summer months."
Barfleur will be joined in April by the fastcraft Normandie Vitesse, and together the two vessels will off up to 3 departures a day from Poole to Cherbourg.
