2011 Television Commercial

Brittany Ferries today launches a new advertising campaign with a 30-second TV commercial which communicates the unique kind of luxury experience enjoyed on the company's cruise ferries. The ad, produced by Bournemouth-based Walker Agency features the strapline 'Where Holidays Begin' underlining Brittany Ferries' belief that its customers' holiday experience begins the moment they step aboard. The TV campaign starts today, 3rd February and will air throughout February and March.

The advert asks the question "When does a holiday begin?" as it follows a family enjoying a range of high-quality holiday moments - a dip in the pool, a freshly-cooked meal, a restful moment in the room and drinks at the bar - before panning out to reveal that all this is taking place on a Brittany Ferries ship, as the family cruises towards their holiday destination in France or Spain.

Richard Price, Head of Marketing at Brittany Ferries explains, "After last year's ash cloud and air strikes, we repatriated many new customers - all of whom were impressed by the cruise-style experience they had on-board. So we decided it was important for potential customers to know just how enjoyable travelling with Brittany Ferries is - hence the line 'Where holidays begin'. This positioning also plays on our substantial in-house tour operation whereby we offer a great range of self-drive inclusive holidays in France and Spain."

Martin Walker, Managing Director, Walker Agency, comments, "Customer research has shown us that when people sail with Brittany Ferries for the first time, they are genuinely surprised by the quality of the whole experience. So creatively, we wanted to build on that sentiment, and set out to produce a TV commercial that challenges people's preconceived ideas of ferry travel."

Brittany Ferries' media agency, AMS Media, have planned and bought the airtime, with Managing Director, Paul Phelps commenting; "We are delighted to be taking Brittany Ferries back on to the TV screens for the first time in three years, with a view to broadening awareness of their great service. We look forward to more families and couples realising what a great travel alternative this is."

The advert was shot entirely at sea aboard Brittany Ferries' flagship Pont Aven and will feature during a range of quality daytime ad evening programmes on ITV. The campaign also includes a range of press, outdoor and online advertising.
