Brittany Ferries have announced that their latest vessel, to sail between Portsmouth, Santander and Cherbourg, will be named 'Cap Finistère'.
Following the success of the Portsmouth-Santander route, launched in March this year, Brittany Ferries is adding yet another luxury cruise-ferry to its fleet to provide its customers with an additional 2 round trips a week between these ports. This move will mean that from March 2010 the UK and Spain will be linked by a total of 4 Brittany Ferries passenger services every week: 3 from Portsmouth and 1 from Plymouth.
The new vessel – Cap Finistère - will complement the existing Spanish services operated by the company’s flagship, Pont Aven, with which it has many features in common, notably its high cruising speed enabling the crossing from Portsmouth to be made in just 24 hours. With 244 cabins – all with ensuite facilities - she can accommodate up to 1,500 passengers and their cars. Whilst on their mini-cruise to Spain passengers can enjoy the swimming pool, choice of restaurants, shopping, bars, live entertainment and movie lounge, plus superb French service.
David Longden, Managing Director, comments: “Despite the recession, demand for the new Spanish route has exceeded our expectations and forward bookings for 2010 are strong. We believe this is because Portsmouth is very easy to get to by road, especially from the Home Counties. At the same time more and more people are discovering the unspoilt delights of northern Spain. Plus, of course travelling by car means taking as much luggage as you can fit in and even on! So, the sailing really is part of the pleasure. With fares for travel in spring starting at only £227 each way for two people, a car and cabin on board, this is a great value alternative way to travel to Spain.”
On days when she does not operate the Spanish route, this ship will provide additional crossings from Portsmouth to Cherbourg.
The 2010 schedule to/from Spain will be:
Cap Finistère sailings:
• departs Portsmouth at 11.15 on Friday and Tuesday arriving Santander at 12.15 Saturday and Wednesday
• departs Santander at 15.15 on Saturday and Wednesday arriving Portsmouth at 14.15 on Sunday and Thursday
Pont Aven cruise-ferry
• departs Plymouth at 16.30 on Sunday arriving Santander at 13.00 on Monday
• departs Portsmouth at 11.00 on Wednesday arriving Santander at 12.00 on Thursday
• departs Santander at 16.30 on Monday arriving Portsmouth at 17.00 on Tuesday and at 15.00 on Thursday arriving Plymouth at 09.30 on Friday
