The shortest crossing to France West of Dover, sailings between
Poole and Cherbourg can be taken either by conventional cruise ferry
or by a fastcraft (summer season only) allowing you to reach the
Norman port in just 2¼ hours. There are up to 3
return passenger sailings per day plus daily freight only crossings
undertaken by the Coutances.
A new freight vessel, the Cotentin, entered service in November 2007 which
operates on the Cherbourg route. The Cotentin has a capacity of up to 160 freight units
and operates at up to 23kts. She is the longest
vessel to serve the port of Poole, following the dredging of the
harbour.
