Following the introduction of this route in 2004 Brittany Ferries
upgraded the service with a new fast ferry during 2005 - the
'Normandie Express'. This fast service offers up to two return
crossings a day with a crossing time of just 180 minutes.
This is the fastest way to France from Portsmouth. During the winter
months, conventional cruise ferries are operated on the route.
A new freight vessel, the Cotentin, is currently under construction
in Finland which will operate on the Cherbourg routes from late
2007. The Cotentin will have a capacity of up to 160 freight units
and will operate at up to 23kts.
